HJØRRING AMT

Region : Nordjylland
Incorporated into: 1970 Nordjylland

Hjorring-amt.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were designed in 1793.

The lion is one of the lions of the Danish national arms and represents Jylland (Jutland). The heart is also taken from the national arms and represents the island of Vendsyssel. The lower half shows a point, which symbolises the shape of the Amt, with three small towers, one for each of the towns in the Amt at the time (Hjørring, Sæby and Skagen).

Literature : Achen, 1982
