Province (county) : Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok

Origin/meaning

The old arms of Karcag shows a sheep. The area historically was mainly dependent on agriculture and sheep farming. During the Communist rule the arms were changed (see below), showing the red star of the Hungarian Communists, an industrial gear wheel as a symbol for the (developing) industry, and the sheep in the base.
