Region : Etelä-Pohjanmaa
Former province : 1997-2009 Länsi-Suomi (until 1997 Vaasa)

Kauhajoki Kuntavaakuna / Kommunvapen

Official blazon

Aaltokorokatkoisen kilven sinisessä yläkentässä kaksi hopeista puhemiehen nuijaa ristikkäin, hopeisessa alakentässä kohti katsova musta karhunpää, jonka kieli punainen.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 17, 1952.

The bear's head is based on the old seal of the Storkyro parish, to which the village historically belonged. The upper half shows two judge's hammers, indicating that during the Winter War the Parliament had its seat in the village. The wavy division line is canting, joki means river.
