County : Tauragė
Municipality : Šilalė

Arms (crest) of Laukuva
Official blazon
Lithuanian blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 24, 2003.

The arms reflect the local legend about the former Treigiai castle, from which the town originates. Once numerous enemies besieged the castle; defenders dressed a three-year-old horse, hung jingles on it, and during night time released it to the enemy camp. The scared horse started running. When the enemies saw and heard a mysterious scary creature they fled in panic, considering it being a demon. Proud for their smart setup, the inhabitants of castle called themselves "treigiai" ("three-years-horses").
