Ludwigslust was founded as a residence of the Grand-Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in the late 18th century. In 1876 the village recieved city rights and the above shown arms. The bull's head is taken from the arms of [[Mecklenburg-Schwerin]]. The rose and the claw are taken from the arms of the Lords of Kleinow, to which the area belonged until 1616.
