Origin/meaning

The water in base recalls Baptism, the beginning of the Christian life, and at the same time, it is a characteristic sign of the Diocese of Maldonado - from where P. Luis Eduardo comes - whose geography extends along the oceanic coast.

The cross is on a blue background, which means Heaven. It is through the Passion and Death of Christ on the cross that we reach the Glory of the Resurrection. The love of God for all men is revealed to us in the cross of the Lord (Jn 3,16). The future bishop recognizes in the cross of the Lord the vocational call to give his life for Christ, with him and in him.

The anagram of Mary with the crown signifies the presence of Mary as Queen and Lady of all creation. The crown is that of the Virgin of the Thirty and Three, patron of our country. Mary as Queen is the great sign that appears in heaven at the culminating moment (Rev. 12,1). The Queen of the Universe who, immaculate, was assented to Heaven in body and soul, today intercedes for us before her Son, Jesus Christ.

The contour of the mountains has to do with the "Sierras de las Animas", located in front of the town of Gregorio Aznárez, in the department of Maldonado. It is the characteristic landscape of the mountains that can be seen from the place where Fr. Luis Eduardo has lived the longest time of his life. Those mountain ranges where the sun rises every morning, witnessed their search for God.

The dove with the seven gifts refers to Pentecost. The coming of the Holy Spirit poured out on Mary and the Apostles prompted the nascent Church to bring the Gospel to all nations. Father Luis Eduardo highlights the importance of the sacrament of Confirmation in his Christian life, which marked a new beginning in the experience of his faith.

The cluster of grapes and the spikes signify the Eucharist. They represent the bread and wine offered at the altar. They are on the green field of the earth made fertile grassland. In John 15, Jesus presents himself as the vine and his disciples, like branches. Only with Him can fruit be given. Without Him, there is no Christian life. The love of Christ is the sap that allows us to live the commandment of love among his disciples. The cluster is "on" to the cross of Christ which is the source of that love that was entered to the extreme. The Eucharist is the source and summit of the whole Christian life.

The motto means "For Christ, with Him and in Him". The motto is taken from the final doxology that concludes the Eucharistic Prayer of Holy Mass. The priest recites a doxology that is a praise to the Most Holy Trinity: "For Christ, with Him and in Him; to You, O Almighty God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and all glory for ever and ever.
