Origin/meaning

The town received city rights in 1355 from Margrave Karl IV of Nürnberg, but the town never developed into a real city.
The arms first appear on the 16th century seal of the town and show in the second and third quarter the quartered shield of the Hohenzollern dynasty, in the 14th century Margraves of Nürnberg. The grapes indicate the importance of the viticulture for the town and the neighbouring area. The arms thus have not changed since, even though different images exist, such as golden fields and with the grapes in the second and third quarter.
