The arms were officially adopted in 2018.

The star is golden and the crescent silver (the colors of the Holy See, on which the Mission immediately depends); the shield is surrounded by a bordure with the colors of the Afghan flag (black, red and green); the shield is ensigned with the processional cross of Herat, one of the few vestiges of Afghanistan’s Christian heritage.
