MUNDELSHEIM
State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Ludwigsburg
Official blazon
In Rot unter einer liegenden schwarzen Hirschstange eine aufgehobene silberne Rechthand.
Origin/meaning
Mundelsheim received city rights in 1422 from the Lords of Urbach. The oldest known seal of the city dates from the early 15th century and showed the arms of Baden, with a grape vine. The city belonged to Baden and the vine symbolised the importance of viticulture for the city.
When the city became a possession of Württemberg in 1595 the present arms were devised. The new arms initially only showed the hand, which possibly symbolises the oath to Württemberg. The deer antler is derived from the arms of Württemberg and appears in the early 17th century.
