Origin/meaning

The heart is the human Heart of Jesus that contains the greatest treasure: the heartbeat, thoughts and feelings of the Heart of the Son of God, of the same nature as the Father. It is like a window through which we "see" and "feel" the Mercy of the Father who loves us with eternal and compassionate love. Jesus, on the Cross, pierced by the spear, opens for us the source of living water and communicates his Spirit to give vitality to the actions and words of his disciples. This Love is the origin and end of the mission of the Church and of the bishop.

The star represents Mary, Mother of Jesus and also ours. Faithful and strong, his "Yes" sustains and nourishes the "yes" of the church and its pastors. His presence and devotion in our ecclesial communities is a sure sign that the life of Jesus continues to become "flesh" in the world.

The sheep is a symbol of the ecclesial community to whom Jesus, the good shepherd, leads and feeds. The bishop embodies this concern and care of the pastor who calls, gathers, feeds, defends and wants to bring everyone together, as a good father. It is your pastoral mission.

The snake serves, from the beginning of the Bible of disguise to a being hostile to God and enemy of man, in which, the whole Christian tradition has recognized the Adversary, the devil. It is like the hidden voice that deceives Eve's soul, introduces doubt, kills friendship with God and ruins everything. Thus it appears in the book of Genesis (Gen. 3). The church interprets, following Saint Augustine, that the history of salvation revolves around Eve and Mary, the rejection or acceptance of the ways of God. History also has as its axis Adam and Christ, the old man andJesus Christ, at the beginning of his public life, confronts the adversary (story of the temptations), overcoming it. His definitive victory on the Cross is a guarantee and hope of salvation for the Christian people.

The motto Mi fuerza en la debilidad (My strength in weakness) is a bold expression of St. Paul (2 Cor 12:10) who confesses that his strength is in the Lord and that he experiences it when he recognizes himself as weak.
