PANDĖLYS

County : Panevėžys
Municipality : Rokiškis

Coat of arms (crest) of Pandėlys
Official blazon
Lithuanian blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 18, 1997.

The 7-pointed stars refer to the 7 days of the week, and the second day in old Latin calendar is Monday symbolized by the Moon, so the name of the town is reflected: it originates from Polish "poniedzialek" ("Monday").

The injured falcon refers to the fight for freedom of Lithuania (inhabitants of Pandėlys participated actively in the uprisings of 1831, 1863, 1905, independence war of 1918-1920 and especially in the guerilla warfare, which lasted there from 1944 until the late 1950s), and a branch of oak symbolizes fortitude.
