Origin/meaning

The arms are based and nearly identical to the oldest seal of the town, which dates from 1374. The arms show a gate, as the town had walls, even though it was not a city, and the arms of the Dukes of Bayern. All seals and later images show the same composition.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
