PORDENONE

Region: Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Province : Pordenone

Stemma di Pordenone

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 19, 1942.

The arms of Pordenone show a gate with two open doors. The name Pordenone comes from Portus Naonis (port of Naone/Noncello river), hence the gate and the river in the arms. The ancient arms of Pordenone supposedly showed the gate on a blue background (see below).

In the year 1401 Wilhelm Duke of Austria granted the city the right to place its arms on the shield of Austria (red with a silver bar). Later, two small crowns were added, symbolising that the town had the power to discuss both civil and criminal trials.
