The arms of the city show the eagle of Upper Silezia and a wheel. The wheel is a canting element in German, Rad=wheel (German name was Ratibor). The combination is known from a seal dating from 1296 and has not changed since.

During the 19th and 20th century the eagle was shown in different colours, which is shown by the images below.
