RAYE-SUR-AUTHIE

Département : Pas-de-Calais

Blason de Raye-sur-Authie/Arms (crest) of Raye-sur-Authie
Official blazon
French D'azur au chevron d'or accompagné en chef de deux molettes à cinq rais d'argent et en pointe d'un poisson du même en pal.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the arms of the oldest known lords of the village, who were named after the village, the De Ray(e) family. The arms of the family are known from round 1600 (when the family no longer owned the place) and showed a golden chevron between three golden mullets. The municipality changed the arms by replacing the lower mullet with a trout, for the former importance of fishing in the Authie river.

Interesting enough, the town also uses a variation in which the upper tow mullets are replaced by flowers, as can be seen on some street signs.
