RIBA-ROJA D'EBRE

Region : Catalonia
Province : Tarragona

Ribaroja.jpg

Official blazon

Escut caironat: de gules, una creu de Malta acompanyada d'un riu en forma de faixa ondada d'argent abaixada. Per timbre una corona mural de vila.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 29, 1988.

The local castle (12th century), over the river Ebro, belonged to the Templar knights of the command of Ascó, later Hospitallers since 1317. The arms show the Cross of Malta of the Hospitaller order of St. John of Jerusalem and the river Ebro (Ebre in Catalan).
