SØNDERBORG AMT

Incorporated into : 1970 Sønderjylland

Arms of Sønderborg Amt

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1960.

The arms show the famous Dybbøl mill, located at an important battle area during the German-Danish wars in the 19th century and a symbol for Danish-ness during the German occupation from 1864-1920. The wheat ears are taken from a patriottic verse of the time : 'Danmarks hvede, Danmarks rug, Dybbøl Mølle maler'(Danish wheat and Danish rye are milled by Dybbøl mill).

The colours are the Danish colours.
