The oldest seal of the town dates from the late 15<sup>th</sup> century and shows a shield with the letters SP and an arrow. The letters stand for Schön Perg, the meaning or origin of the arrow is not known. In the early 16<sup>th</sup> century the above arms were granted by Duke Albrecht IV of Bayern, they were confirmed by Duke Wilhelm on June 18, 1537.
