SCHALKSMÜHLE

District (Kreis) : Märkischer Kreis (1969-1975 Lüdenscheid, before 1969 Altena)
Additions : 1969 Amt Halver (partly), Hülscheid

Wappen von Schalksmühle

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted after the merger with Amt Halver and Hülscheid.

The arms are based on the old arms of Schalksmühle (see below) and Hülscheid. The water-mill wheel is derived from Schalksmühle (Mühle, or mill, making it a canting symbol), and the ivy (Hüls) for Hülscheid. The chequered bar is derived from the arms of the Counts of the Mark, as the area historically belonged to the County of the Mark.

The previous arms were granted on March 29, 1935.
