Official blazon
German Auf rotem Grund mit einem schmalen goldenen Bord einen blau bezungten goldenen Löwenkopf.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms show a lion's head as all municipalities in the Grossen Freien territory, which is not the Sehnde municipality, used a lion in their arms.

The previous arms were granted in 1939, see below.

The chief in the old arms shows the lion as used by all municipalities in the Grossen Freien territory. The lower half shows the blade of a spade, originally symbolising agriculture, but now also used as a symbol for the potassium mining in the area. A spade was also used by Henning von Sehnde in the 15th century.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
