Origin/meaning

The arms show the lion and the billets of the Franche-Comté region. The cogwheel represents the local heavy industry, especially the Peugeot car factories. The letter S is th etown's initial.

The hops surrounding the field indicate the importance of brewing in the town. The medal is the 1939-45 War Cross.
