Origin/meaning

The two knives (Hapen in the local dialect) appear for the first time as a symbol for the village in 1591, as part of a decoration on the town hall. They appear in combination with a bunch of grapes in another decoration, dating from 1751. They also appear on the oldest known seal of the town, dating from the 17^th century. The knives are used in the cutting of the grapes. Viniculture was the main source of income for the village.

The present arms were officially granted in 1935 and combine the grapes and knives with the deer antler of Württemberg.
