Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on October 26, 2006.

The silver Polish eagle is a symbol for the fact that the village once was a Royal village. The horseshoe refers to the blacksmith tradition in the town. The yew branches refer to the local nature.

These are the fourth arms used by the town; the first was introduced in 1866 and shows four banners, one for each of the (sub-)parishes of the municipality. These arms were used until 1945.

The second arms were designed and adopted in 1969. They also showed the Polish eagle, but now with symbols for industry, a hammer, a pair of pliers and a cog-wheel.

These arms were again replaced in 1992 adopted arms with a rather different design, a pine tree, anvil and horseshoe. The pine tree referred to the forests, the anvil and horseshoe to the blacksmith tradition. As this design was not approved by the Heraldry Commission, the 1969 arms remained in use until 2006.
