Origin/meaning

Tettnang was founded in 1280 by Count Hugo of Montfort and received city rights in 1297 from King Adolf of Nassau. The oldest seal dates from the late 14^th century and already shows a dog. The origin or meaning of the dog is unknown. Ever since the dog has been used on the seals and arms of the city.
