TORROELLA DE MONTGRÍ

Region : Catalonia
Province : Girona

Escudo de Torroella de Montgrí

Official blazon

Escut caironat: d'or, 4 pals de gules; ressaltant sobre el tot una torre d'argent tancada de sable. Per timbre, una corona de baró.

Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 2nd April 1993.

Canting arms: they show traditionally a tower ("torre" in Catalan), that symbolize the local castle, and the royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon (four pales Gules on Or), because the town has belonged to the Crown since 1272, and has been the centre of the barony of Torroella (symbolized by the baron's crown at the top of the arms).
