Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on June 12, 1962.

The arms show in the upper part the arms of Franken to indicate that the district is part of Franken. The cross in the lower part is the arms of the Teutonic Order, who owned some parts in the district as well as the castle in Ellingen. The other part shows part of the arms of the Counts of Pappenheim, who also owned parts of the territory.
