Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 11, 1984.

The arms show a heron holding a fish. The heron is a very common bird in the region, which is characterised by small streams and lakes. The river is alsy symbolised by the wavy bar. The bar also symbolises that the village historically was divided in Wester- and Osterrade. The -rade part of the name is derived from Rodung, which indicates a part of the forest cleared for agriculture. This is symbolised by the tree trunk in the base. The branch growing from the trunk symbolises the new life starting in the cleared forest. The green colour is again a symbol for the local nature.
