Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 26, 1988.

The village was historically situated in an area known as the Vierherrengebiet (area of four Lords), which is symbolised by the quartered shield. The arms show in the first quarter the lion of the Counts of Katenelnbogen, the oldest Lords of the village and in the second the lion of Nassau, as the are was part of Nassau from 1802-1866. The third and fourth quarter symbolis mining and agriculture respectively.

In 1955 the arms below were proposed; a red lion and the letter W in a free quarter. The lion was taken from the only historical seal of the village, known from 1798. The letter W was added to distinguish the arms from other arms with lions.
