WORMS (WO)

State : Rheinland-Pfalz
Incorporated into : 1969 Alzey-Worms

Worms.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on August 6, 1954.

The dragon is taken from the arms of the Münz family. It is also a symbol of Siegfried, the hero from the Niebelungenlied, one of Germany's most famous medieval stories.

The vine is a symbol of the winegrowing in the area. The upper part of the shield, with the three arches, symbolises the bridge over the Rhine.

Literature : Stadler, K., 1964-1971.
