Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 16, 1995, but have been used for many centuries.

The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city, known since 1417. The arms show the three water-gates and a city wall. The water is the Zahnabch and the seven fish refer to the former seven fish ponds around the city.
