Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 7, 1995.

The arms combine (parts of) the arms of the former rulers in the district. The lion in the first quarter is the lion of the Pleissenland area. The second quarter shows the arms of the Schönburg family, the third the rose of the Lords of Windenfels. The lion in the fourth quarter is the lion of the Vassals of Weida.

Literature : Linder and Olzog, 1996.
