NO 261 SQUADRON, ROYAL AIR FORCE

History: Formed at Felixstowe in August 1918 and disbanded in September 1918. Reformed at Habbaniya on 12 July 1941.

Official blazon

In front of a sword erect the point downwards azure a mullet argent the whole in front of a Maltese Cross sable fimbriated Or. Motto: Semper contendo.

Origin/meaning

The Maltese Cross symbolises when as Fighter Flight Malta, defended the Island. The Star is indivative of the five Campaigns subsequently undertaken while the Sword is indicative of a Fighter Squadron. The Motto translates as ”I strive continually”. The Badge was approved May 1946.
