NO 263 "FELLOWSHIP OF THE BELLOWS" SQUADRON, ROYAL AIR FORCE

History: Formed in Otranto in September 1918 and Reformed in October 1939.

Official blazon

A lion rampant gules holding in the fore-paws a cross azure fimbriated argent.
Motto: Ex ungue leonem.

Origin/meaning

The Lion signifies the Unit's Link with Scotland whilst the Cross taken from the Flag of Norway refers to the work of the Squadron in 1940 when it flew Gladiators from a frozen Lake. The Motto translates as ”By his claws one knows the lion”. The Badge was approved in October 1941.
