Origin/meaning

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Red, white and blue are our National Colors; gold is emblematic of honor and achievement. The stylized parachute denotes unique quick response capabilities while the Taeguk represents the Republic of Korea and the unit's theater of operations. The three lightning bolts are conjoined to symbolize the joint nature of the organization while highlighting teamwork and cooperation among the Army, Navy and Air Force. They also underscore the three methods of insertion/exfiltration of forces: land, sea and air. The black dagger alludes to the specialized capabilities and training of the unit's soldiers.

Distinctive Unit Insignia: The Taeguk, adapted from the Korean flag, represents the unit’s theater of operations. The wings underscore the unit’s capabilities and airborne status. The lightning flashes symbolize speed and strike capabilities; while highlighting the three methods of insertion/exfiltration of forces: land, sea and air. The dagger denotes total military preparedness. Black and white/silver allude to covert and overt actions. The motto “CONCILIO PROVEHO” (Move Forward and Together) refers to our Republic of Korea Special Forces counterparts.

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was approved on 18 November 1996. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 12 October 1999.
